Flower rich margins

Flower rich grass

Most of the field boundaries have an established flower-rich grass mixture.  The boundaries are about 8 metres wide.  The flowers vary according to the seasons.  They include black knapweed, oxeye daisies, black medic, bird’s foot trefoil and yarrow.

The flowers encourage pollinators like bumble bees, hoverflies and butterflies.  The pollinators collect nectar from the flowers and in the process transfer pollen between plants.
